The Santa Cruz County College Commitment (S4C) is a countywide collaborative comprised of public education institutions, including all K-12 School Districts, Cabrillo College, CSU Monterey Bay, San Jose State University (SJSU) and the University of California Santa Cruz (UCSC).

The partnership is aimed at getting every Santa Cruz County student college ready.

Students will begin to experience college campuses beginning with a 4th grade visit to Cabrillo College where they will interact with teachers in mini workshops and other educational activities. Students will continue to be introduced to institutions of higher learning as they move through middle and high schools with visits to CSUMB and UCSC campuses.

Santa Cruz County High School seniors have the opportunity to apply for $500 Cabrillo Commitment Scholarships that have become available as a result of a $1 million gift from Cabrillo College’s largest donor, Barbara Samper.

In Spring, 2012 Cabrillo College welcomed more than 3,200 Santa Cruz County fourth grade students on campus for the first time. Fourth graders participated in educational activies specifically designed to provide them with exposure to a college environment. In honor of Barbara Samper and her generous gift, Cabrillo College has named the event the Samper Fourth Grade Experience. Watch the video below to learn more.
